Thermoforming
The
process thermoforming involves taking a substrate, heating
it to just below melting point, lowering it onto a mold.
Then through a series of small holes in the mold we employ
the use of vacuum power to suction the plastic onto the
mold, allow it to cool and, viola, you have a cast. We can
do this to just about any three dimensional object. Please
call our friendly customer support for details and any questions
you may have.
Plaskolite-Bunker is proud to be a part of the most significant change the sign industry has seen since the introduction of thermoplastics. This Dodge Ram's head and bezel are thermoformed as one piece from VIVAK, a Sheffield Plastics copolyester sheet made from an Eastman Chemical Company resin. The formed plastic is placed in a vacuum chamber and coated with a thin layer of aluminum to achieve the chrome finish. A protective transparent UV coating is added, then the lens cover, which is also made from VIVAK sheet, is snapped into place. Ascend
Design Inc. in cooperation with Plaskolite-Bunker has produced more than 1,000 of the Dodge Ram signs for Daimler Chrysler's Dodge dealerships used in their new car showrooms.
